Discovery Program

Laurel Heights Hospital provides a highly specialized residential treatment program for children and adolescents ages 6 & up with Autism Spectrum Disorder who have severe behavioral difficulties and psychiatric illnesses. Our primary objective in treatment is to teach new skills and behaviors that allow our patients to meet their needs in positive ways, thereby reducing severe behaviors such as aggression or self-injury.

  • Staff-to-patient ratio – One direct care staff for every 2 patients during waking hours

Education

Children attend school year round. Each patient’s treatment program also incorporates two hours of recreational therapy per day that emphasizes activities to increase social skills, leisure skills, and fine and gross motor skills. Students participate in weekly community based instruction to increase these skills in a variety of settings.
